Business, parnassah and halacha, from where you stand.
Makom Mindset is a blog and podcast for frum entrepreneurs, owners and professionals. We talk about how a business actually runs when Shabbos closes the shop on Friday afternoon, when the contract has to pass a shaila, and when the competitor down the block is also your neighbor in shul.
No motivational posters. Real halacha, real numbers, real people who have done it.
What we cover
Ona'ah and fair pricing, hasagas gvul and competition, ribbis in loans and financing, and when you need a heter iska. What the poskim say, and what it means for your next deal.
Closing early on Friday, Yom Tov season, online sales that run over Shabbos, and how to explain all of it to clients, partners and investors who aren't frum.
Hishtadlus versus trust, risk, failure and starting over. The honest version, from people who have lost money and built it back.
Giving ma'aser on business income, structuring a company so the tzedakah grows with it, and building something the community can lean on.
Employing family and friends, paying on time (bal talin), handling disputes the right way, and when a din Torah belongs in the contract.
Profiles of owners who built real companies, from the corner store to the tech startup, and what they would tell someone just starting.
The podcast
Conversations with frum business owners, rabbanim who pasken on business questions, and the people who have tried and failed and tried again.
